Have You Ever Slept in a Wigwam?

Today was shorter on driving, but longer on things to see.  The Prius's bout of Priusism seems to have let up (if it lasts more than four hours, you have to see an emergency mechanic, of course.)  John still isn't happy with the way it's recharging, but it looks like we can wait and have it looked at in Albuquerque, where we will be for a few days.

We went to see the Meteor Crater near Winslow - on John's bucket list - and it was pretty neat. A little sensationalism (Through This Crater, We Have Touched Outer Space....read in a James Earl Jones voice, of course) but a lot of good and interesting information, and a helluva impressive crater.  No guided tours due to 50 mph gusty winds at the rim - the wind has been SERIOUS today everywhere.

From there we headed towards Hollbrook, our night's destination, and went to see the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert Nat'l Park.  Beautiful petrified logs and trunks and chunks scattered all over, petroglyphs from 650-2,000 years old, and then the incredible vistas of the Painted Desert. Well worth the tour.

Arrived in Holbrook and checked into The WigWam Motel. I've always wanted to stay here (guess it's my Meteor Crater) and it makes me smile. Even has internet!  And a room air conditioner, tiny shower, queen bed (they didn't have anything bigger for us) and a small TV for John's sports and news (good thing Game of Thrones was last night, when we had a bigger screen!)

We're off to the Mexican restaurant recommended by the nice woman in the office.  Actually, she said she could have their food by IV, which now that I think about it might not have been a recommendation.  But we're going to go see.

Tomorrow, Albuquerque!

Edited to add:  The Mexican food was very good, but different from what we eat in California. They have that red chili/green chili sauce thing here, made with the Hatch chiles. The green chili sauce was pretty dang edible.  Afterwards we watched a few minutes of a small Native American dance exhibition in the park.  I think it was Hopi, although they didn't say.  A young boy did a very impressive dance with hoops, but since the small audience was largely Native American, the announcer didn't give a lot of explanation. Still, we were glad we got to see it.
